African Studies Minor

Requirements

A minor in African Studies comprises the following:

  1. HIAF 2001 and 2002, with a “C” or better in both courses
  2. Twelve credit hours beyond HIAF 2001 and 2002, selected from two departments with the approval of the African Studies Faculty Advisor.
  3. An average of 2.0 in all courses counted toward the minor

Note: Courses counted toward the minor may not be counted toward the student’s major.  Up to six credits of approved study abroad credits may apply to the minor.

Declaring an AS Minor

The procedure for declaring a major in African-American and African Studies is as follows:

  • Make an appointment with the AS Faculty Advisor, Cynthia Hoehler-Fatton, whose office is in Minor Hall 102.
  • Bring copy of your VISTAA form to your appointment.
  • Be prepared to discuss the courses you have taken, or plan to take, to fulfill the AS minor requirements.
