Undergraduate Minors
Requirements for the Minor
The Department offers two minors. The minor in Russian Language and Literature consists of courses taken within the Slavic Department, while the minor in Russian and East European Studies is interdisciplinary. Courses taken at any time during a student’s career at U.Va. may be counted toward the minor.
Minor in Russian Language and Literature
- Russian language through RUSS 1020
- Seven additional courses of at least three credits each in the Department in Russian language, literature or folklore
- Courses must be approved by the Director of Undergraduate Programs
Minor in Russian and East European Studies
- Russian language through RUSS 1020 or Polish language through POL 1220
- Seven additional courses of at least three credits each, with no more than three in any one department
- RUSS 2010 and RUSS 2020, if taken, do not count toward the three-course maximum in one department
- Courses must be approved by the DUP
Declaring a Minor
To declare a minor in the Department students should:
- Pick up a Declaration Form at Garrett Hall
- Contact Mark Elson, the Department DUP, for an advising appointment:
- Deliver a copy of the completed form to the Dean’s Office in Garrett Hall no later than the deadline for adding classes of their next to last semester in the College
