Dobro Slovo
Dobro Slovo is the National Slavic Honor Society, serving to recognize academic excellence in the study of Slavic languages, literature and history and seeking to encourage continuing interest in Slavic studies.

Summer Programs
The Department offers an intensive course covering first- and second-year Russian as part of the UVa Summer Language Institute.

Study Abroad
The Department strongly encourages its students to spend a summer, semester or full academic year in Russia or another country in Eastern Europe. In consultation with the Director of Undergraduate Programs and the Internaitonal Studies Office (ISO), students can choose from a number of study programs available through accredited colleges and universities around the country.

Center for Russian and East European Studies (CREES)
CREES is an interdisciplinary center that brings together faculty and students from a number of different disciplines within the university who share an interest in the regions of East Central Europe and the former Soviet Union. The Center sponsors meetings, conferences, awards and other events and activities that foster collegial interaction and research. It also creates a list every semester of course offerings that may contribute to the interdisciplinary B.A. in Russian and East European Studies and the M.A. in Contemporary Russian Studies (the degree programs are administered by the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures).

Mapping St. Petersburg
An interactive website developed by Julian Connolly and designed to help students of Russian culture become familiar with specific sites of literary and architectural significance in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Professional Associations

Association of Teachers of Slavic and East European Languages (ATSEEL)
Professional asssociation with the goal of advancing the study and promoting the teaching of Slavic and East European languages, literatures, and cultures on all educational levels. The annual convention is open to graduate student participants, and the association provides job links and access to its newsletter on their website.

American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies (AAASS)
A nonprofit, non-political, scholarly society, and the leading private organization in the world dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about the former Soviet Union (including Eurasia) and Eastern and Central Europe. The AAASS supports teaching, research, and publication relating to the peoples and territories within this area. Its annual convention is open to graduate students, and the website provides links to resources and publications of interest to students of Slavic languagse, literatures and cultures.

American Council of Teachers of Russian (ACTR)
A professional membership association for American teachers of Russian language and literature. With more than 1,650 members, ACTR is dedicated to advancing the teaching of Russian through publications, programs, and conferences.
