The University of Virginia is interested in recruiting students with talent and interest in music. Students with exceptional talent in art, dance, drama or music, and who plan to major, minor or significantly engage in the arts are encouraged to submit a Music Supplement.
If you have an interest in music and wish to supplement your undergraduate application to the University of Virginia, you may submit a CD (preferred format) or audiocassette recording, or original compositions (not original copies) to the Music Department.
Performance
Students may submit a sound recording (CD preferred) or musical score. One sound recording per instrument please. Sound recordings must isolate and highlight the applicant. Group performances that obscure the ability to assess an individual's level of talent will not receive evaluation. Length of supplement sound recordings should not exceed 15 minutes. Choose two or three contrasting selections (style, rhythm, etc.) or portions thereof to perform.
Composition
Composers should send a copy of one or two scores that are representative of their recent work, and, whenever possible, an audio recording of the works submitted. You may include a resume of works played, and performance/musical experiences.
Please write the following information on the CD:
These materials should be sent directly to the Music Department Arts Supplement Coordinator, separately when applying to U.Va.
