Registration Procedure for Full-time UVA Students
-
Auditions and Instructor Approval:
Registration begins with contacting your prospective instructor as early as possible! Obtain approval from the
instructor of your choice. Instructors may require auditions.
All students taking lessons through the Music Department for the first time must enroll for 200-level lessons, a credit/no-credit (pass/fail) class that carries either 0.5 or 1 credit. Your instructor must sign a Course Action Form and indicate the number of credits you will receive. Only students who have successfully auditioned for the 300-level will be allowed to register for 300-level study, which is a graded course (2.0 credits). If you have taken at least one semester of lessons with the Music Department and wish to audition for the 300-level, inform your instructor and the Music Department Chair's Assistant as soon as possible so that an audition can be arranged before the registration period ends.
-
Lessons Scholarships: Through the generosity of private donors and the College of Arts and Sciences, the Department of Music has limited funding available for lessons scholarships. With some very rare exceptions, only students who performed a jury at the end of the semester immediately preceding the current one are eligible for a scholarship. The department awards lesson scholarships before the beginning of the semester, and students will be notified via e-mail in advance of registration regarding the scholarship amount. Students awarded a partial scholarship must register for at least a one-credit lesson in order to apply their scholarship. Students whose aid might be affected by lesson scholarships will be notified by the department.
- Payment for lessons: Private lesson fees will be billed for collection by Student Financial Services. Students can view and pay account balances on-line for private lessons.
- Register for Lessons: With the instructor-signed Course Action Form, you are ready to complete your registration. See the top of this page for registration dates, location, and deadlines.
