The Wind Ensemble features 45 of the most outstanding brass, woodwind, and percussion players at the University. Recent concerts have included works from the musical Les Miserables, performed with Broadway performer Ivan Rutherford, Erik Ewazen’s “Hymn to the Lost and the Living" (2002), Michael Mogensen’s “Aerial Fantasy” (2005), and Dmitri Shostakovich’s “Folk Festival” (1955) Focus is placed on exploring new literature as well as performing the masterworks of the wind band era. The group is open to all University of Virginia students who enjoy the genre of the wind band.
