The McIntire Department of Music is pleased to present The Fourth Wall
in residency at the University of Virginia on April 5 and 6, 2013. The
group, which explores a new hybrid of the performing arts in which
musicians are also dancers and actors, will provide a series of recitals
and masterclasses throughout the weekend.
The residency begins
with a chamber music masterclass on Friday, April 5 from 1:00-3:00 pm in
Old Cabell Hall room 107, and continues that evening with an exciting
and innovative recital at 8:00 pm in the Old Cabell Hall auditorium. The group will finish their residency with
an interactive hybrid arts workshop from 3:00 to 5:00 pm in Old Cabell
Hall room 107. All events are free and open to the public.
Stretching
the boundaries of instrumental performance, The Fourth Wall commissions
new interdisciplinary works and reinterprets es
tablished repertoire to make music that leaps off the stage. The
ensemble is comprised of flutist and dancer, Hilary Abigana; bass
trombonist and choreographer, C. Neil Parsons; and percussionist and
narrator, Greg Jukes. Founded in 2010, The Fourth Wall has been
inspiring and delighting audiences all over the country with their
hybrid arts performances that combine music, theater and dance.
Members
of The Fourth Wall have attended The Eastman School of Music, Oberlin
Conservatory of Music, the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins
University, Ohio University and Rice University's Shepherd School of
Music.
The Fourth Wall Residency is supported by the Eleanor
Shea Music Trust and all events are free and open to the public. For
