UVA Summer Chamber Music Festival - June 26 - 30th, 2012

Join the UVA faculty this summer in an intensive five-day chamber music workshop. The focus will be on developing musicianship skills which go "beyond the notes" — the listening, rhythmic, analytical, and diplomatic skills that go into the making of quality chamber music. Students will study appropriately assigned repertoire in detail with faculty members in small ensembles and orchestra, culminating with a final performance in Old Cabell Hall.

The program will meet on the grounds of the University of Virginia from 9:00am - 5:00pm Tuesday, June 26 through Friday, June 29, and on Saturday, June 30 from 11:00am through 1:00pm. Students will perform in a final concert the afternoon of June 30. Each day will be divided into chamber ensemble coachings and rehearsals, master classes, and large chamber ensemble rehearsals.

The workshop is open to college and high school students, advanced middle school students, and adult amateur musicians who play string, woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. A minimum of three years of individual instrumental study and at least one year of ensemble experience is expected of all applicants. Teacher recommendation and an audition CD or DVD are required of all applicants. The program fee includes coaching/instruction, lunch and snacks each day, locker rental for the week, and two tickets to the 2012-2013 UVA Chamber Music Series.

Application Procedures

Application Deadline: Applications are due on or before Tuesday, May 1, 2012

Application Materials: Each application must include a completed application form, the application fee, and a CD or DVD recording. Recording requirements are described in detail on the application. Only complete applications will be evaluated for admission.
