Family Weekend Choral Showcase

The traditional Family Weekend Choral Showcase will feature the UVa University Singers, UVa Chamber Singers, Virginia Women’s Chorus and Virginia Glee Club in concert on Saturday November 6th, 2010 at 7:00 pm in Old Cabell Hall.  The concert’s lively and varied program will feature selections from all four ensembles’ 2010 repertoire – including Britten’s “Hymn to St. Cecilia,” Gjeilo’s “Ubi caritas,” Palestrina’s “Sicut Cervus,” and Eric Whitacre’s “little man in a hurry,” as well as folk songs, a sea chantey, and works celebrating peace in Zulu and English. 

The evening will close with a joint performance of Handel’s “Hallelujah” Chorus, as well as the beloved UVa songs, sung by the choruses – more than 180 voices strong – who will be joined on stage by their alumni. 

The Virginia Women’s Chorus is conducted by KaeRenae Mitchell, the Virginia Glee Club is led by conductor Frank Albinder, and the University Singers and UVa Chamber Singers are directed by UVa faculty conductor Michael Slon.
