American education has moved steadily away, over the past thirty years, from all that it did well, sacrificing teacher and student creativity for corporate numerical accountability. Those who truly created the energy behind Silicon Valley and New York in the 90s (and now lead those creative industries) are those who reaped the benefits of the now-so-maligned educational system of the 1960s and 1970s - you know, the ungraded, whole language, new math, open classroom, non-standard curricula system all US leaders since Ronald Reagan have attacked as worthless.

Now we program students to fill checklists, rather than create. This is lead by our sad and absurd university admissions process which is steadily robbing our elite universities of true economic or creative diversity.

I&#039;m not sure where our next leadership cohort will come from, but I&#039;ll guarantee it won&#039;t be coming from the defined &quot;high achieving schools.&quot;</description>

		<description>You made some great points Meredith, GM&#039;s bigs need to have an intimate background in their industry, not finance, to make their business prosper.  We see this with numerous aspects of American businesses, even our Presidents have been more business orientated than social.   I agree with you 100% when you quoted &quot;there is perhaps something to the argument that we as a nation have become excessively focused on credentials&quot;.
