The Arts & Sciences Office of Research Administration works with faculty and graduate students in departments of the College and Graduate Schools of Arts & Sciences to develop and submit research proposals for external sponsorship. This includes arts, humanities, social sciences, mathematics, astronomy, and related departments and centers. The Departments of biology, chemistry, environmental sciences, physics and psychology have grant administrators to directly assist faculty in grant preparation and process (see Research Administrators list). The Research Administration Office coordinates all Arts & Sciences grant applications and awards with the University's Office of Sponsored Programs which serves the entire University.

Proposal Forms and Materials


Contact the Arts + Sciences Research Administrator, regarding any impending proposal submissions and provide a copy of the guidelines or a link to the sponsor\'s Request for Proposal. Completed proposals must be received in the A+S Research Office a minimum of 3 working days before the sponsor\'s deadline. For proposals submitted through the minimum is 5 days.

  • - When submitting a proposal through, do not register individually. The University of Virginia is registered as the official entity with and for all faculty, staff and students, the University is the sole applicant for sponsored awards. Application packages may be accessed and started without regard to registration. Alert A&S Research Administrator of impending proposal submission and allow at least 5 days for review and routing of final proposal.
  • Fulbright U.S. Student Program - UVa internal deadline is 15 September 2014. On-line application should be complete and submitted by internal deadline to qualify for an interview with the UVa Fulbright Committee. For more guidance contact the appropriate FPA.
  • U.S. Dept. of Education’s Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad - The UVa internal deadline is Wednesday 18 June 2014. Please contact Lynn Hedlund if you are interested in applying and verify that you meet the eligibility requirements. Competition information and the link to the electronic application are on the U.S. Dept. of Education website.
