Admissions Deadlines

Overview

There are three general types of admissions-related deadlines:

1. Application deadlines for specific departments, often tied to the awarding of department fellowships. A list of department deadlines appears below. Applicants who indicate on their application for admission that they seek financial aid will automatically be considered for fellowships by the department to which they are applying. To be eligible to receive such a fellowship, applicants should be absolutely sure to apply by the department deadline. Occasionally, if a department has accepted all of the students it can accomodate, the admissions application acceptance period will be abbreviated and end before the below listed department deadline.
2. Applications received by Dec. 3, 2007 will be considered for financial aid and fellowships that are administered on a Graduate School-wide basis (as opposed to by individual departments) Examples are the Jefferson Graduate Fellowships, awarded by the Jefferson Scholars Graduate Fellowship Foundation, and the Presidents Fellowships, awarded by the Graduate School. Applicants that meet this deadline who indicate on their application for admission that they seek financial aid will also automatically be considered by the department to which they are applying as candidates for department fellowships.
3. April 15, 2008 enrollment acceptance deadline for admitted applicants to indicate they have decided they will attend the Graduate School. This is a nationwide standard deadline agreed upon by a resolution of the Council of Graduate Schools (.pdf). Though a small number of our departments officially still accept admissions applications up to and after this date, it is the norm for the Graduate School to extend acceptance offers early enough for applicants to meet this deadline.

Department Deadlines

Some departments and programs have their own admissions application deadlines. In many cases the deadline is tied to the awarding of department fellowships.
