The public economics workshop invites speakers to present research that examines the role of government in the economy, including possible justifications for government involvement, political economy explanations for government action, and consequences for individuals and firms. Specific topics of interest include externalities, public goods provision, welfare programs, social insurance, taxation, the structure of democratic institutions, and voting. Research of interest includes theoretical and empirical analysis of the U.S. and other countries.
