Echols Interdisciplinary--Publishing

I have applied to take summer classes in publishing at Columbia University.  The Columbia Publishing Course is an intensive 6-week program that takes recent college graduates with a liberal arts degree and trains them for a career in publishing, with attention paid to both book and magazine publishing. The course places 90% of its graduates in publishing jobs in New York City at the end of the program.  The job placement offered by the course is one option I will be considering.  In addition, I have applied for an editorial job at Scholastic children's book publishers.  I worked there over the summer last year, and would love to work with children's books.  In fact, that's what my thesis is on for my Echols Major.
