Echols Scholars Program Alumni
Class of the 1960's

On June 4, at the time of the class reunions, the Echols Scholars Program and the Alumni Association co-sponsored a dinner for the Echols alumni of 1964, the first graduating class of Echols Scholars. The Echols Scholars Program alumni attending were Stephen McNamara, Barry Jacobs, Lewis Carlisle, Robert Brady, Tom Kriete, David Stoughton, Alan Cole, William Marmon, and Robert Williams. John Via sent his greetings. We were pleased to have join us Professor Emeritus William Duren who was Dean of the College from 1955-1960 and who created the Echols Scholars Program.

Ben Palmer '65, remembers rooming in the original Echols House with John Dienelt and that in his day, "mathematics was incredibly brutal in grading."

David Robertson, '68 reports (1999) that since 1980 he has been a partner in Cadwalader, Wickersham, and Taft in New York.

Charles Bryan ('68) is a partner in their Washington D.C. office. Both did History Honors at UVa, and David went on to UVa Law (1971) then an Air Force JAG officer in late days of Viet Nam War.
