| All Studies in Women and Gender courses apply toward fulfillment of the College area requirement in Social Sciences. |
The Studies in Women and Gender major seeks to study history and culture from women’s perspectives, and to deepen methods of academic pursuit by acknowledging the critical place of gender in society. By examining issues raised in the Studies in Women and Gender program, students will develop a fuller understanding of their options as human beings and will recognize that we live in a culture divided by gender stereotyping that defines and limits both women and men.
There are a number of 100- and 200-level courses in various departments appropriate for first-year students who seek an introduction to this field; each semester the Studies in Women and Gender Office prepares a listing of such courses. First-year students may pick up this directory at 227 Minor Hall or call 982-2961 for more information. Course descriptions are also available on the program’s web site.
