All Psychology courses apply toward fulfillment of the College area requirement in Social Sciences.

Psychology is the scientific study of behavior. The Psychology Department has a faculty with diverse research interests and offers courses across a broad range of areas of psychology. The Department offers course work in the following areas: clinical psychology, cognitive psychology, community psychology, developmental (child) psychology, psychobiology, quantitative psychology, and social psychology.

General Psychology (PSYC 101) provides an overview of psychology from both natural science and social science perspectives. This course is required for majors and recommended for anyone who wants to learn more about the areas of psychology. We also offer introductory courses at the 200 level that are focused on specific areas of psychology. There are no prerequisites for these courses, and any student may choose to take one of these courses if they have interest in the topic. The 200-level courses offered this year include:

  • PSYC 210 Introduction to Learning
  • PSYC 215 Introduction to Cognition
  • PSYC 220 Introduction to Psychobiology
  • PSYC 230 Introduction to Perception
  • PSYC 240 Introduction to Personality Psychology
  • PSYC 250 Introduction to Child Psychology
  • PSYC 260 Introduction to Social Psychology

Courses at the 300- and 400-level generally require some background in psychology and are not recommended for first-year students.
