| All Drama courses apply toward fulfillment of the College area requirement in Humanities |
The Drama Department offers several introductory courses. DRAM 101, enrolling 120 students, introduces students to the art of theater, requires attendance at Department of Drama productions, and draws a sizable number of first-year students. DRAM 211, 213, 221, 223, 231, and 233 introduce students to what goes on behind the scenes of a production in set, lights, and costume, and requires crew work. DRAM 202 is a requirement for the drama major. It is an introductory acting course that employs improvisation, games, vocal-physical exercises, and monologue work in order to explore basic performance theory and technique. Attendance at all class meetings and all departmental productions is mandatory. The theater courses listed below focus on specific areas (see our web site for complete course descriptions); none of them have prerequisites.
Typical class size is as follows: DRAM 201: 20; DRAM 202: 15; DRAM 208: 100; DRAM 281: 350; DRAM 282: 30; DRAM 305 and 306: 40; DRAM 331: 18; DRAM 360 and 361: 40; and DRAM 383: 20.
There are other drama courses with prerequisites that may be appropriate for qualified first-year students. Contact the Drama Department for further information. If you are interested in pursuing drama as a major or a minor, plan to see Mr. Hoh (majors, 924-8962) or Mr. Grissom (minors, 924-8971) early in the fall semester. Both have offices in the Drama Building.
