As the number of people and programs expands, the College is rapidly outgrowing its available facilities and the need for more space is ever-increasing. In addition, many College-use buildings on or around Grounds are outdated and in desperate need of renovation and refitting. To this end, a number of capital projects are envisioned or underway at Arts & Sciences.
Donations to facilities at any level help the College build the necessary infrastructure for growth. In addition, there are many opportunities for giving at the signature level.
A major focus of the Campaign for the College has been the South Lawn Project. Envisioned as an extension of Thomas Jefferson's historic Lawn, the South Lawn Project contains classrooms and common spaces amid a beautifully designed landscape and is connected with Central Grounds by a 100-foot-wide terrace stretching across Jefferson Park Avenue. The South Lawn Project will house the History, Politics and Religious Studies departments and feature both common gathering areas and classrooms equipped with the latest technology. It will provide the backdrop for students in these departments to develop the knowledge and skills to become leaders in the global community, while affording necessary space for collaboration and innovation vital to the College community.
