Who We Are

The mission of the University of Virginia Arts Box Office is to provide efficient and convenient methods of distributing tickets and event information for social, cultural, and educational programs at the University of Virginia and the surrounding areas through careful maintenance and appreciation of both client and patron relationships.

The Arts Box Office is located within the lobby of the Drama Building at 109 Culbreth Road on the grounds of the University of Virginia and serves the following organizations and events:

Policies

Tickets can be purchased in person or over the phone Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm. Tickets can also be purchased through this site at any time. Online sales end two hours before an event is scheduled to begin. If seating is still available, tickets can also be purchased at the door, beginning one hour prior to each event.

Please note that all programs, artists, ticket prices, dates, and times are subject to change without notice. Food, drinks, smoking, cameras, and other recording devices are prohibited in all venues. As a courtesy to artists and other patrons, please turn off cell phones, video games, and any other electronic devices before entering any event.

Payment:

All tickets must be paid for at the time of ordering, and no tickets will be held without payment. The Arts Box Office accepts cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover as forms of payment. Checks must be made payable to “University of Virginia - Arts Box Office” or “U.Va. - Arts Box Office” Please note that tickets purchased at the door can only be paid for with cash at some venues.

Fees:

A $3.75 per order charge will apply to all phone, mail, and online orders. This charge does not apply to free tickets. All per order charges are nonrefundable.

Delivery:

Tickets purchased via mail, phone, or online can be mailed, if requested. Please allow five to seven business days for delivery. Tickets purchased within seven days of an event will automatically be held at will call. Will call tickets can be picked up in person at the Arts Box Office during normal hours of operation or at the door beginning one hour prior to the event. Please be prepared to present a confirmation email, driver's license, or other form of photo ID when picking up will call tickets. U.Va. students must also present their student ID when picking up complimentary or U.Va. student discounted tickets, as these tickets will not be mailed.

Inclement Weather:

Please contact the Arts Box Office to check the status of any event that might be affected by severe weather. In most cases, an event will proceed as scheduled, unless the university is closed. To check the operational status of the University of Virginia, please visit www.virginia.edu/emergency or call (434) 924-7669.

Refunds:

All sales are final. If you are unable to attend an event, you may be eligible to return tickets for a charitable contribution income tax deduction for the face value of the tickets (any handling fees cannot be included). Tickets must be returned to the Arts Box Office at least two business days in advance.

Exchanges:

If the event you have purchased has more than one performance time, you may be able to exchange the tickets to the same event at a different time based on availability. Exchanges must be made in person by returning the original tickets at least twenty-four hours in advance and cannot occur for an event that has already taken place, has already started, or between two different events. Complimentary tickets and Virginia Film Festival tickets cannot be exchanged. Patrons wishing to be seated together must order at the same time.

Misplaced Tickets:

Lost tickets are similar to lost cash, and reserved seating tickets will not be reprinted unless ownership of a seat location can be completely verified. General admission tickets cannot be reprinted.

Infants and Small Children:

All persons, regardless of age, must have a ticket for entry, including babes in arms. As a courtesy to artists and other patrons, please use discretion regarding a child's ability to sit quietly and enjoy an event. Please note that most events are not appropriate for pre-school age children, and anyone creating a disturbance during an event may be asked to leave. For events at Old Cabell Hall, no one under the age of five will be allowed entry.

Discounts:

Groups purchasing tickets at the same time with one form of payment, senior citizens age sixty and above, U.Va. Alumni Association members, U.Va. Faculty/Staff, and any full-time student at any level at any school, may be eligible for discounted ticket prices to select events. Not all events offer discounts and discounts for one event may not apply to another. Any such discounts must be selected at the time of purchase and cannot be applied to previously purchased tickets.

Complimentary Tickets:

Complimentary tickets should be picked up in person with a valid photo ID at the Arts Box Office during normal hours of operation. If seating is still available, complimentary tickets can also be picked up at the door. In most cases, those eligible for complimentary tickets can receive no more than two tickets per performance.

Seating and Accessibility:

Please advise Box Office staff prior to purchasing tickets when special seating is required (wheelchair seating, aisle seat, etc.) Accessible seating prices and availability vary by event and venue. So that we may serve the greatest number of patrons, we ask that each person seated in a wheelchair section limit themselves to one guest seated next to them in a seat. Additional guests will be seated as close to the wheelchair section as possible.

Late Seating:

Please arrive at least forty-five minutes in advance of an event if you need to purchase tickets or pick up tickets from will call, and at least thirty minutes prior if you already have tickets. Please be advised that some events may transpire simultaneously with University of Virginia athletic events, in which case it may be necessary to allow additional time for parking and travel. Doors open and seating begins approximately thirty minutes before the scheduled start time. Late seating information for each venue is listed below:

  • Culbreth Theatre: Patrons will be admitted after curtain, but they are not guaranteed their ticketed seat until intermission.
  • Helms Theatre: Patrons may be admitted after curtain, but they are not guaranteed their ticketed seat until intermission.
  • Ruth Caplin Theatre: Patrons will be admitted after curtain, but they are not guaranteed their ticketed seat until intermission.
  • Old Cabell Hall: For most events, the doors are shut at the start of the event and will not be reopened until the first piece has finished. At this time, seating will only be allowed into the balcony, even if tickets are assigned on the main level. For some events in Old Cabell Hall, there will be no late seating until intermission.
  • Virginia Film Festival: Seating is on a general admission first-come, first-served basis, and there is no late entry or late seating.
