Professor Sandhya Shukla received her Ph.D. in American Studies and M.A. in African and African American Studies from Yale University and a B.A. in government from Cornell University. Her primary affiliations at the University of Virginia are with the American Studies Program, the Asian Pacific American Studies minor and the Department of English. She is the author of India Abroad: Diasporic Cultures of Postwar America and England (Princeton University Press, 2003) and co-editor of Imagining Our Americas: Toward a Transnational Frame (Duke University Press, 2007); her current book project is entitled “Cross-Cultures of Modern Harlem.” She teaches courses in American studies, transnational cultural studies, South Asian diaspora, and urban space; during 2008-2010 she will be teaching the core class 3001/3002.
